This is a server related follow-up to dot’s post here.
As you can probably tell, DMZCraft was down intermittently at the end of the week last week. Due to some server wonkiness we had to switch off to get our dots (har har) in a row. But now it’s working! Yatta!
DMZCraft has moved into it’s new home: a server hosted with our new family member, MCNSA, by a very patient and kind gentle-father called Evil_k9 (he’s really not that evil, I swear). This server blows our previous host out of the water in terms of power and serviceability. As you log in you will see that the world is as it was and things are working again. Something different you will notice is going to be the addition of members of staff and regular players over the next few weeks and months. Staff additions are members of MCNSA that are part of a sort of team-up. Like the Avengers… or Justice League if you prefer DC.
Please note that this means we no longer need server donations for upkeep. Hence the DO NOT DONATE notification upon login to the server.
The upcoming 1.13 patch and server deployment will be a fresh start in a lot of ways. We will get into the specifics as to what it holds for us in the coming weeks, so stay tuned and get your build on 🙂
Please do not make any donations to the coffer at NFO servers, we are going to move to an in-house sever being run by the MCNSA folks, which has stats that make our server look like a toaster by comparison. 20 cores, 40 threads, 192GB memory (we currently have 4 cores and 4GB).
So as you know, things were pretty financially grim for me for a good long time. The only reason I made it this far was that I had the world’s most understanding landlady. That’s had, past tense. She passed away rather suddenly, not too long ago.
She left her considerable fortune to a local cultural organization, which hired property managers. The property managers said the new owners couldn’t let us continue with the payment plan we were on, and demanded it all at once. As you can imagine, we didn’t have it.
So I’ve been evicted. I’m right now in between the time they get the judgment, and the time they set the date for the sheriff to come and boot me out. Kurtwood found a place and moved already, I’m just waiting for the end and trying to get my ex’s van registered and smogged because that will be better than the alternative, which would be, not having a van to sleep in.
Turns out, what we were paying here is about what people will rent a room in a house for, and I can’t even afford that right now. Things hopefully will improve once I get through these unproductive panic-attack filled final few days.
So I can’t guarantee that I will be able to cover the server cost, though I will certainly try. I can’t face losing this too. After I move into the van I probably won’t be able to play for awhile, but I do plan on buying a laptop and I can charge things at work and then use them at night so I hope it won’t be too long that I can’t play.
Because I feel kind of … falling-off-a-cliff-y, I … ok, this is going to sound weird … it’s like, if I don’t get back for awhile I wanted there to be something of mine that … was still there? If that makes sense. To that end, in my “spare” time, I’m doing my best to keep DotScape updated for 1.13. It’s here, and there’s an add-on pack to make the dark stuff (you’ll know what I mean when you see it) light. It only works in 1.13 (snap.dmzcraft.com).
So anyway, I’m going to go get ready to do DMV stuff and put my good bicycle on Craigslist and hope for the best.
The skyblock world has been around for years now, always almost, but not quite, ready. Is anything ever really ready though? I’m sure some things are, but those things never seem to be on DMZ, so the new philosophy is “screw waiting for perfect readiness, let’s play this game now.” The challenge system command blocks are all updated and Tier 5A and 5B have been added, featuring new and improved challenge books (with clickable navigation and indexes!). Two of the Tier 5A challenges take place in Skyblock’s guardian tank (!!), and Tier 5C will include several mansion-related quests. It’s all original Skyblock content, no special plugins or world generators. Islands belonging to long-vanished players have been reset (most of them not only vanished from DMZ, but from Minecraft in general — I checked). Many of you still have islands (some have more than one!), but there are ample vacancies on all of the difficulty levels.
We’re also done waiting for the rest of everything to be “ready” so that we can advertise. Not the paid-for kind of advertising, just the running around listing ourselves in various forums and subreddits and whatnot — ready or not, that is going to happen within the next couple of days. Despite our distinct lack of visible staff, I feel confident that we can handle a fair amount of new players. The documentation (here, on the website) is pretty solid, the plugins are behaving, the command blocks are … commanding blocks, and we have a really great little server here that has had a ton of work put into it. A fuckton of work, in fact. Way too much work to be wasting it waiting for whatever we’ve been waiting for.
OK, I’ve got to go move a mansion and automate some illagers and whatnot. But … Skyblock! Now! OK? OK.
1.12 has been up and running since last night, and though it broke most of our fancy command block custom items, I stayed up all night and fixed them, and the World of Color update is SO BEAUTIFUL.
Picture unrelated: the city of IceStorm, shown above, has just expanded by way of a new high-rise apartment complex, which comes with some awesome benefits — and it would be a great place to build things with all the cool new blocks.
Also — PARROTS IN THE LOOTERY! And for Delta +, /parrots whenever you want them (and they stay on your shoulder!)
Just come play 🙂
p.s., I’ve updated the Plugin Command Reference with all the latest info including furniture recipes!
If I may direct your attention to the donation page, which shows the server’s expenses since its inception, and where the money has come from to pay for it. Some time ago I (Dot) became resigned to just paying for it myself, and so I did. People would offer, but I’d say nah, don’t worry about it.
However, since I am (hopefully temporarily) out of work at the moment and in semi-dire financial straits, I am asking for help. In the info-accordion on the donation page, you’ll find the whole history of the server’s funding, along with links to donate. These donations go DIRECTLY to the hosting provider, and anything over the amount owed for the current month goes into a coffer to pay for future months. This means the ONLY place your donation will go is to the server, it won’t get waylaid by bounced check fees or any of my other current financial snafus.
Multiplayer Minecraft servers have been a victim of a DDoS attack. Currently twitter account @HOICSquads is claiming responsibility for the attack to “make people go outside.”
Mojang HQ is in Sweden, current time is 4:40AM there, so I imagine they will be working on it when they get in to their offices in the next few hours.

I haven’t completely updated the website but it’ll get there. I’m going to advertise a little, because Skyblock is basically as ready as it’s ever gonna be. Oh, development will continue, but for now, LET’S PLAY SOME SKYBLOCK![btn text=”GET AN ISLAND” tcolor=#F2F2F2 bcolor=#FFA500 thovercolor=#FFF link=”http://dmzcraft.com/island-assignment/” target=”_self”]
Oh, and if you’re new here & wondering what all the other DMZCraft stuff is about, we have a Survival map that’s almost a year and a half old, but it’s a HUGE world with a teleport system and a Games world and a Creative world. The only thing it doesn’t have is players, but we can fix that right? Hop on over to play.dmzcraft.com if that sounds good!
As you may or may not know, we have a spare server set up, and a few of us have been working on setting up a vanilla skyblock server. The islands are arranged as you see below, in four sections — Easy, Medium, Hard, and Extreme. There are corresponding warps at spawn, and there will be challenges with automated rewards and ranks! But we’re still working on it.
